A/ About the studio

One crew. Whole job.

DV Buildworks is a small digital agency based in Los Angeles, working with businesses across Southern California. Design, development, search, ads, analytics, and security come from the same crew, which is the difference between a website that markets and a website that merely exists.

01/Why we exist

The gap we kept seeing

Most small businesses end up with their digital work split across vendors who never speak to each other. A designer builds a site. An SEO consultant recommends changes the designer will not make. An ads agency sends traffic to a page nobody optimized. An analytics contractor reports on tracking that was never configured correctly. Each one is doing their job, and the business is still not getting results.

The gaps between those vendors are where the money goes. A redesign launches without redirects and the rankings disappear. A campaign runs for three months against a conversion tag that was firing on the wrong page. Nobody is at fault, exactly, and nobody is accountable either.

We built this studio around closing those gaps. When SEO requires a template change, we make it. When an ad campaign needs a better landing page, we build it. When tracking is wrong, we fix it at the source rather than filing a ticket with whoever owns the site.

02/How we work

Four commitments
A

Measured, not guessed

Every engagement gets measurement wired in from day one, and we report against numbers you can verify in your own accounts. If a tactic is not working, the data says so before we do, and we change course rather than defending the plan.

B

You own everything

Your domain, hosting, ad accounts, analytics properties, and code stay yours, in your accounts, under your billing. We work with access you can revoke. Nothing we build is held hostage on our infrastructure, and everything is handed over documented.

C

Scoped before built

You approve a plan and a fixed price before anything is built. Discovery sets the objectives, the blueprint sets the scope, and change is discussed rather than invoiced quietly at the end.

D

Plain language

You will not get a report you need us to interpret, or an explanation designed to make the work sound harder than it is. If something is not worth doing, we will tell you, even when it is something we sell.

03/Where we work

Base and service area

We are based in Los Angeles. Our team has delivered digital work for major Los Angeles transportation organizations, public media, engineering and logistics firms, and education brands, which means we know what enterprise-grade process looks like and we bring it to projects sized for a small business.

We serve businesses across all of Southern California: Los Angeles, Orange, Riverside, San Bernardino, San Diego, and Ventura counties. The markets are not interchangeable. A competitive search term behaves differently in Santa Monica than it does in Riverside, and the buying patterns of a coastal service business are not those of an inland one. Local knowledge is the point of hiring locally.

We also take on remote projects across the US. Web work travels, and the local emphasis is about understanding a market rather than a boundary we refuse to cross.

Our full account of where the experience comes from, with the capacity of each engagement stated, is on the Work & Experience page.

04/What we will not do

Worth stating out loud
01

Guarantee rankings

Nobody controls Google's ranking systems. A guarantee only tells you the terms were chosen to be easy to win.

02

Bill a share of ad spend

Charging a percentage rewards an agency for spending more of your budget, which is the opposite of the job.

03

Hold your accounts

Campaigns, properties, and code live in your accounts. If we part ways, the history and the learning stay with you.

04

Take a bad-fit project

If a template site is what the situation calls for, we will say so rather than selling a build you do not need.

Q/FAQ

About the studio
How big is DV Buildworks?

Small on purpose. You work directly with the people doing the work rather than an account manager relaying messages to a production team you never meet. When a project needs a specialist we do not have, we say so and bring one in rather than pretending otherwise.

Do you work with businesses outside Southern California?

Yes. We are based in Los Angeles and most of our work is across the six Southern California counties, but web work travels. We take remote projects across the US. The local emphasis is about knowing a market, not about a boundary we refuse to cross.

Do you work on retainer or per project?

Both. Builds are scoped and quoted at a fixed price. Ongoing programs like SEO, paid media, analytics, and maintenance work on a monthly basis. Most clients start with one project and grow into an ongoing program, which is the order we recommend: prove the working relationship on something finite first.

What do you not do?

We do not guarantee rankings, we do not charge a percentage of ad spend by default, we do not hold your accounts hostage on our own infrastructure, and we do not do offensive security work. We also turn down projects that are a bad fit rather than taking the money and underdelivering.

How do we get started?

Email [email protected] with a few lines about your business and what you need. We will reply with a short set of questions, then a scoped proposal.
